Let our expertise simplify your portal management

With more than 25 years of experience as a leader in the healthcare arena, Michelle O’Quin’s career started when she worked for Medicare Part B as a claims processor in college. After graduation, she became the Business Office Manager for a small rural hospital, managing all patient access, billing, accounting, and medical records. She’s also worked as an Implementation Specialist for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi/Medicare Part A, where she installed, trained, and supported their proprietary hospital operation systems and claim EDI functions.

For the next 15 years of her career, Michelle owned a Practice Management company where she was responsible for all billing operations in physicians’ offices. She also trained billing and coding nationally, and partnered with regional payer partners in support of rolling out their first quality initiatives. After relocating to Jacksonville, FL, Michelle shifted focus to Managed Care Contracting and Enrollment.

When she started her career, payment depended on the ability to capture charges and submit claims to payers. Rejections and denials were primarily due to insurance eligibility, demographic errors, or high-level coverage issues. Volume was the driver. Shifting focus from volume to value changed it all. Good provider data became more important than ever, as did good clinical data.

Today, payment depends on receipt of that data. Claims will fail, reject, and deny if things don’t align. This is the driving force that led Michelle to launch Portal Matters.

Portal Matters is NOT:

We are NOT a Talent Search company.

We are NOT a PSV company.

We are NOT a billing company.

We are NOT a licensing company.

We are NOT a provider of healthcare services.

So, what are we then?

Portal Matters is a support partner for healthcare providers.

Our company was founded because Michelle believes the integrity of provider data across various healthcare platforms is compromised. This is of no fault of one entity. Each new spouse, employer, license, location, payer, driver’s license renewal, etc., becomes an exposure point for the provider.

Providers no longer control their own data — their information is owned by the individual that touches it that day. We don’t say that to scare you, but to offer a more comfortable path forward.

Portal Matters was created with the individual provider in mind. We want our clients to rest assured that their portal information is consistent across all platforms, because when data is inconsistent or incorrect, claims are held, rejected, or denied. For example, if NPPES doesn’t match Medicaid, and Medicaid doesn’t match the payer, the payer will deny the claim, beginning a very painful process for the revenue cycle team.

Unfortunately, a provider may not even know an issue exists until they receive a call from their Credentialing Team, Medical Director, HR, Billing Team — or worst of all, the Legal Team.

Don’t be the provider that receives that call. You might not have been the one to update the information in your profile, but you’re still responsible for it. Let’s fix it. We’re here to help.
